"Original Yucatán: Encuentro de Arte Textil Mexicano", Yucatán, Mexico
Original México is a national cultural initiative dedicated to the preservation, visibility, and fair recognition of Mexico’s Indigenous and traditional textile arts. Created as a response to the systematic appropriation of artisanal designs, the project positions craftsmanship as living cultural heritage while promoting ethical collaboration, cultural rights, and direct economic benefit for artisan communities.
In 2025, Original México reached a historic milestone with Original Yucatán, the first edition of the encounter held outside Mexico City, hosted in Mérida, Yucatán. The event marked a decisive step toward the decentralization of cultural production in Mexico and the strengthening of regional identities within a national and international context.
I participated as one of the producers of the event, working alongside a multidisciplinary production team to deliver a large-scale cultural encounter that brought together over 300 master artisans from 26 Mexican states, representing more than 24 Indigenous languages and textile traditions. The event took place at the Centro de Convenciones Siglo XXI and the Gran Museo del Mundo Maya, welcoming over 31,000 visitors over four days.
